Myriad/Strange/Silent creatures call this place home, their rustling/clicking/chirping sounds the only music/company/noise in the stillness/hush/quiet. I had become lost, wandering for what felt like hours/days/ages, my path swallowed by the thicket/forest/undergrowth. I tripped/stumbled/fell over a root/stone/log, landing with a thud/bump/clatter that echoed through the silent/still/tranquil woods. Fear began to creep/crawl/settle in, a cold/heavy/numbing sensation that spread through my body/bones/heart.

I tried to retrace my steps, but every tree/branch/shadow looked the same. I was completely/utterly/totally lost. The sun began to dip/sink/descend towards the horizon, casting long shadows/streaks/beams across the forest floor. As darkness fell/crept/settled, a sense of isolation/loneliness/hopelessness washed over me. I shivered/trembled/flinched in the growing/increasing/mounting cold, my breath/lungs/chest tight with fear.
